Laser Hair Removal IPL

What is IPL hair removal anyway?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light technology. Home IPL hair removal devices apply very gentle pulses of light to the hair root. This makes the hair go into its resting phase: the hair you have falls out, and gradually your body grows less hair in that area.

Is it really permanent?

In shortest and fastest, no. None of any procedures or the most updated technologies take an over night to do the whole miracle in thousands of people's wishes. We perform with an Intense Pulsed Light, IPL, which heats the hair follicles to stop new hairs from growing  that lasts for a long period of time-  up to a several years to a decade or even above. When the hairs do grow back, they will be much thinner and fewer in number.

Is laser hair removal uncomfortable, or even painful?

You may experience a small but manageable sensation that we describe as a “pinch” or a “zap” when we pulse the laser.  Most of waxing, stringing and electrolysis clients report that the discomfort is far less than those methods of hair removal.  Stress, fatigue, caffeine, your menstrual cycle and pain tolerance may also influence the level of comfort —  or discomfort —  that you feel. We apply gel on skin's layers and the small device gets freeze a few minutes prior the beginning of the treatment to prevent from pain.

How laser hair removal works?

Laser therapy uses high-heat laser beams as a mild form of radiation. During the process, these laser beams heat up and damage your hair follicles. Your hair follicles are located just below the skin. They’re responsible for producing new strands of hair. If the follicles are destroyed, then hair production is temporarily disabled.

How many treatments will I need?

The laser targets the dark pigment found in the hair follicles. The laser energy is absorbed by the follicles and converted into heat, which permanently damages the follicle. However, the laser effectively destroys only those hairs that are in the active growth phase. Because individual hair grows at different rates, several treatments are necessary to successfully destroy all hair follicles. Most of our patients need 8 to 12  treatment sessions or slightly above depending on sex gender, spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.

What causes hair growth?

Heredity and ethnic background constitute the primary causes of hair growth.  Superfluous or excessive hair growth in women often results from normal biological changes that they undergo throughout life, such as puberty, pregnancy, menopause and old age.  Any one of these changes may cause an increase in hair growth in areas that never had hair before, or cause a small to moderate problem area to worsen.  Other causes of hair growth can be associated with certain medications, stress and obesity.

More serious causes can be an abnormality in the endocrine system, such as irregular menstrual cycles;  ovarian disorders, such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS); and thyroid abnormalities.  If you suspect any of these conditions —  or if during your skin evaluation we suspect any of them – we will always recommend that you seek a medical evaluation.

How does laser hair removal compare to electrolysis?

Both laser hair removal and electrolysis are effective however, laser hair removal is much more efficient for large areas (such as legs, chest and back) because it treats many hairs at a time. Electrolysis, on the other hand, only treats one hair at a time and is therefore appropriate for small areas. This difference also makes electrolysis very expensive for larger body areas.

What to expect during procedure

  • The removal process is done in a few sessions depending upon the hair quality and quantity.

  • Goggles are worn for eye protection.

  • Cooling gel may be applied to the site of hair removal before starting the procedure.

  • Small handy device is used to pass hot laser beams. The light from this beam is converted into heat which inactivates the hair follicles in the area.

  • After the procedure, cool pack and creams are applied to prevent irritation.

What to expect after procedure

  • Swelling, redness and some changes in skin color are commonly experienced immediately after the procedure which subsides gradually in few hours.

  • Ice pack can be applied to relieve these symptoms.

  • Completely avoid sun for next few weeks and use a strong sunscreen lotion.

  • Avoid all other hair removal methods such as waxing or plucking in the treatment site.
